Iran has claimed a fresh wave of attacks on US military facilities in Bahrain, while Bahraini authorities said they intercepted the incoming strikes and Pakistan renewed calls for Washington and Tehran to return to negotiations.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched what it described as a “devastating attack” on Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, claiming it destroyed air reconnaissance and control radar systems as well as a fuel pumping station used by US fighter aircraft.
The IRGC said the strikes were carried out in response to recent US attacks on Iran, including those that it said forced the evacuation of a children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz and damaged a water production plant serving pilgrims travelling to Iraq’s holy city of Karbala in Ilam province.
“The battle continues,” the IRGC said in a statement.
The latest announcement came shortly after Iran’s army claimed additional attacks on US military positions in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain as part of its ongoing retaliatory operations.
Bahrain, however, said its air defence systems had successfully intercepted the Iranian attacks.
In a statement, Bahrain’s military accused Iran of continuing “its systematic hostile approach through its sinister attacks targeting civilians” and said air defence forces detected, intercepted and destroyed several incoming aerial threats.
The army urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid approaching debris left behind by the intercepted projectiles.
As the military confrontation continued, Pakistan said it was intensifying diplomatic efforts to bring both sides back to the negotiating table.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Islamabad would continue urging the United States and Iran to halt hostilities and resume talks under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed last month.
“While the implementation of the MoU is facing challenges, Pakistan will continue to encourage all sides to end violence and resume technical-level talks,” Andrabi told reporters in Islamabad.
Pakistan has played a central mediating role since the conflict began, hosting talks between US and Iranian officials earlier this year and helping broker the interim agreement signed in June by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, US President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The latest developments underscore the widening regional dimensions of the conflict, with continued exchanges of military strikes accompanied by renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation.
