MACL Signs Agreements to Strengthen Airport Crisis Management and Emergency Preparedness

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has signed partnership agreements with three key national agencies as part of efforts to strengthen crisis management capabilities and improve emergency preparedness at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The agreements were signed with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS), and the Maldives Red Crescent (MRC) during the Airport Crisis Management forum held at Hulhule Island Hotel.

The signing ceremony was attended by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, State Minister for Tourism and Environment Ibrahim Mimrah, senior MACL officials, and representatives from the participating institutions.

According to MACL, the agreements are intended to enhance the airport’s preparedness for emergencies and crisis situations through closer coordination among relevant agencies. The initiative aims to strengthen safety measures at the country’s main international gateway while improving the effectiveness of emergency response systems.

Under the agreements, the participating organisations will establish formal coordination mechanisms, clearly define their respective roles during emergencies, and conduct joint training exercises and simulation drills to improve operational readiness.

MACL said the collaboration will reinforce its ability to respond to emergencies efficiently while ensuring the continued safety and resilience of airport operations.

The company also expressed appreciation to NDMA, the Maldives Meteorological Service and the Maldives Red Crescent for their cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining Velana International Airport as a safe, secure and well-prepared international gateway capable of responding effectively to crisis situations.
