HPA Urges Public to Take Precautions During Eid Holidays Amid Rise in Illnesses

The Health Protection Agency has urged the public to take preventive health measures during the Eid holidays as cases of several illnesses continue to rise across the Maldives.

In a statement released on Sunday, the HPA said the spread of diseases including flu, influenza, dengue, and viral fever has increased in various parts of the country in recent days. The agency also noted that cases of fever and flu-like symptoms have been reported in the Greater Malé region.

With many people expected to travel to islands and visit relatives during the Eid break, HPA advised the public to remain cautious and follow safety measures to reduce the spread of illnesses.

The agency further urged individuals experiencing symptoms of illness to seek medical attention promptly if their condition worsens.

Among the key precautions advised by HPA are:

  • Stay at home if experiencing fever or respiratory symptoms
  • Seek medical treatment quickly if symptoms become severe
  • Self-isolate while awaiting test results if suspected of having influenza
  • Wash or sanitize hands regularly

HPA also advised the public to avoid unnecessary visits to hospitals unless medical care is required, especially as illnesses continue to spread rapidly in the Malé area.

In addition, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital has also called on the public to follow health safety measures and avoid non-essential hospital visits during this period.
