President Dr Mohamed Muizzu joined senior government officials and personnel of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for Fajr prayers at the Islamic Centre in Malé this morning, marking the beginning of Victory Day.
The Islamic Centre was filled with MNDF officers who gathered for the early morning congregational prayer to commemorate the events of 3 November 1988 and honour the courage and sacrifices of those who defended the country during the attempted coup.

The Fajr prayer was led by an MNDF imam, who recited Surah An-Nasr (The Divine Support) during one of the rak’ahs.
The gathering brought together military personnel and senior government officials in a moment of prayer and remembrance as the country marks the 38th anniversary of Victory Day.
Victory Day is commemorated annually on 3 November in remembrance of the Maldivians who resisted the attempted coup in 1988, when armed militants attempted to overthrow the government. The day honours those who lost their lives defending the nation’s independence and sovereignty.
