President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the flag-raising and guard mounting ceremony held at the November 3 Memorial Monument this morning, marking the Maldives’ Victory Day.
The ceremony took place at the November 3 Memorial Monument, where the President and First Lady were welcomed by Minister of Defence and National Service Hassan Rasheed upon their arrival.
Government ministers and senior officials also attended the ceremony alongside the presidential couple.
This year’s Victory Day celebrations began earlier this morning with Fajr prayers held in congregation at the Islamic Centre in Malé, attended by President Muizzu, senior government officials and personnel of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
Victory Day is commemorated annually on November 3 in remembrance of the events of November 3, 1988, when Maldivian forces, with assistance from Indian military forces, repelled an attempted coup against the government. The day honours those who lost their lives defending the country.
