The Maldives has officially launched its ‘Visit Maldives Year 2027 – Celebrate the Sunny Side’ campaign at the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026, inviting international media and tourism industry partners to join efforts to promote the country as a leading global travel destination.
The campaign follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s announcement in this year’s Presidential Address designating 2027 as ‘Visit Maldives Year’. The initiative aims to strengthen the Maldives’ international tourism profile and encourage more travellers to visit the country throughout the coming year.
The campaign was unveiled at a special media gathering titled ‘Celebrate the Sunny Side – An Invitation to the World’, attended by Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen, senior government officials, tourism industry representatives and international media.
During the event, officials outlined the campaign’s vision, planned activities for 2027 and opportunities for greater collaboration with international tourism partners.
Minister Ameen and Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) CEO and Managing Director Abdullah Yassir officially introduced the campaign.
Ameen described Visit Maldives Year 2027 as a nationwide initiative that brings together the Maldivian people and the tourism industry to showcase the country to the world.
He said the campaign would highlight the Maldives’ unique identity, rich culture, hospitality and diverse visitor experiences, while creating new opportunities for businesses and local communities.
The minister added that the initiative aims to generate greater international interest in the Maldives, strengthen its position in the global tourism market and build a brighter future for the industry under the theme ‘The Sunny Side of Life’.
VMC CEO Yassir said the campaign represents an important step towards expanding the Maldives’ presence in international markets, increasing its popularity and supporting sustainable growth in tourist arrivals.
He noted that launching the campaign at WTM London would provide a strong foundation for achieving the country’s tourism ambitions in the coming years. He also highlighted the importance of close cooperation with tourism industry partners in encouraging more visitors to choose the Maldives in 2027.
The media gathering also featured a leadership panel with MATI Chairman and recipient of the Nishan Izzuddeen, Hussain Afeef; Minister Ameen; VMC Board Chairperson Abdullah Giyas Riyaz; and Villa Resorts Chief Operating Officer Ibrahim Siyaad Qasim.
Discussions focused on the Maldives’ national tourism vision, industry participation and investment opportunities.
The Maldives is participating in WTM London 2026 with a delegation of 161 representatives. The delegation includes 136 representatives from 62 tourism companies.
The three-day event, taking place at ExCeL London until tomorrow, provides Maldivian tourism businesses with opportunities to meet international buyers, establish commercial partnerships and showcase their products and services to the global travel industry.
