Shehbaz Hails Muizzu as a Sincere Friend

Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif warmly welcomes Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, describing him as a sincere friend of Pakistan and saying his visit would further strengthen the longstanding brotherly relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the Maldives-Pakistan Business Forum, Shehbaz said the warmth of Muizzu’s arrival in Islamabad reflected the friendship shared between the two nations.

“Ever since you have landed at Islamabad Airport, the air is full of sweet fragrance of your arrival and our friendship, which is felt and smelled by Pakistanis all over the country,” Shehbaz said.

He described Muizzu’s state visit as a potential turning point in bilateral relations, particularly in advancing trade and investment cooperation.

“This visit of yours will be a turning point in further strengthening our bilateral brotherly relations and above all this will be a game changer in terms of promoting our bilateral trade and investment portfolios,” he said.

Shehbaz also called on entrepreneurs, traders, investors and business leaders from both countries to seize the opportunities presented by the growing relationship and translate them into concrete economic initiatives.

Towards the end of his remarks, Shehbaz revealed the two countries’ ambition to increase bilateral trade from approximately $13 million to $200 million within the next two years, saying Muizzu had agreed to the target following his request.

The remarks came during Muizzu’s state visit to Pakistan from October 20 to 22, as both countries seek to deepen their longstanding friendship through stronger economic and commercial ties.
