The Maldives Police Service is launching a nationwide crackdown on repeat traffic violators in response to a surge in severe road accidents across the country.

In a public message addressing persistent road safety violations, Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Mohamed stated that reckless conduct by a minority of drivers continues to jeopardize public safety and infringe upon the rights of compliant road users. He emphasized that non-compliance with basic traffic rules remains a primary driver of serious collisions, many of which have recently resulted in severe injuries and fatalities.

To curb ongoing dangerous driving practices, the Commissioner instructed law enforcement units and relevant agencies to enforce stricter, coordinated measures against habitual offenders in both the Malé region and the atolls. Appealing for public cooperation, CP Ahmed Mohamed underscored that the heightened enforcement aims to restore discipline and ensure safer transit across the nation’s roads.
