The Maldives has called for climate finance to reach vulnerable countries at the scale and speed needed to strengthen their resilience against climate change.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef said resilience requires the financial means to act, particularly for Small Island Developing States facing the impacts of rising sea levels.
He called for climate finance to be provided at the necessary scale, speed and on terms that allow vulnerable countries to build resilience.
The Vice President said implementation must be the measure of international commitments, stressing the need to move faster in addressing the impacts of climate change.
For the Maldives, he said building resilience requires international support alongside national efforts to adapt, innovate and strengthen infrastructure.
The Vice Presidentās remarks came as the Maldives continues to highlight the financial challenges faced by small island states in responding to climate change.
