Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif signs the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a mediator.

The United States has revealed that the preliminary peace agreement signed to bring an end to the conflict involving Iran contains 14 key provisions aimed at addressing the most significant disputes between the two countries.

According to US officials, the memorandum of understanding serves as a framework for resolving major points of contention between Washington and Tehran and lays the groundwork for a permanent peace agreement.

Under the arrangement, negotiations will begin in Switzerland on Friday to work towards a comprehensive final agreement within a 60-day period.

Key points of the agreement:

  1. Upon signing the agreement, all military operations involving the United States and Iran will cease immediately. Both sides commit to refraining from the use or threat of force, while also respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
  2. The United States and Iran agree to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and not interfere in one another’s internal affairs.
  3. Both countries commit to reaching a permanent peace agreement within the next 60 days.
  4. Within 30 days, the United States will lift its naval blockade on Iran and withdraw military deployments positioned around Iranian territory.
  5. Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, allowing commercial and private vessels to pass freely without fees or restrictions. Iran will also begin consultations with Oman regarding the future management and security of the waterway.
  6. The United States will work with its partners to provide up to $300 billion for the reconstruction of Iranian infrastructure and facilities damaged during the conflict.
  7. All sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States, the United Nations and related international bodies will be removed under the terms of the final agreement.
  8. Iran reaffirms that it will not develop nuclear weapons. The future of its enriched uranium stockpile will be resolved through mutual agreement during upcoming negotiations.
  9. Until a permanent agreement is reached, both sides will continue implementing all provisions outlined in the memorandum.
  10. Until sanctions are formally lifted, the US Treasury Department will issue waivers allowing Iranian oil and energy exports to continue.
  11. Iranian assets and funds currently frozen by the United States will be released and made available to Tehran.
  12. Both countries will establish a monitoring and implementation mechanism to oversee compliance with the agreement and ensure progress toward a lasting peace settlement.
  13. Once implementation begins on key provisions relating to the ceasefire, maritime access, sanctions relief and frozen assets, negotiations on the remaining elements of the final agreement will proceed.
  14. Any permanent agreement reached under the memorandum will be endorsed through a binding resolution of the United Nations Security Council, making it legally enforceable under international law.

The memorandum is intended as an initial framework, with both sides expected to negotiate the finer details of a comprehensive and permanent settlement over the coming weeks.
