Tamil film superstar-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as “Thalapathy” Vijay, officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, marking a historic turning point in the state’s political landscape.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where thousands of supporters, political leaders, celebrities, and party members gathered to witness the event. Vijay took the oath alongside members of his newly formed cabinet under the banner of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Vijay’s rise to power comes after TVK secured a major breakthrough in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, ending decades of dominance by the DMK and AIADMK in state politics. Analysts have described the victory as one of the biggest political shifts in modern Tamil Nadu history.
Shortly after assuming office, Chief Minister Vijay reportedly signed his first set of policy decisions, including initiatives related to free electricity support, women’s safety measures, and anti-drug enforcement programs.
Supporters across Tamil Nadu celebrated the moment both online and on the streets, with many calling it the beginning of a “new era” in the state. Videos from the ceremony quickly went viral on social media platforms, showing emotional reactions from fans and party workers as Vijay officially entered office.
