Maldives Transport and Contracting Company is continuing its rapid expansion across the Maldives with a series of major transport, infrastructure, and public service initiatives aimed at modernizing connectivity and improving urban mobility nationwide.
One of the company’s most significant recent developments is the launch of the government-backed Malé Taxi Line, a 24-hour electric taxi service introduced in the Greater Malé Region. The service, operated by MTCC, began with a fleet of electric vehicles and a dedicated mobile booking system designed to offer faster, cleaner, and more reliable transportation for commuters. The initiative marks one of the largest shifts toward sustainable public transport in the Maldives.
In parallel with the taxi service rollout, MTCC continues to oversee several large-scale infrastructure projects across the country. Road redevelopment works in Malé City are progressing steadily, including upgrades near the Presidential Jetty and Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal areas. The project includes road widening, asphalt paving, improved drainage systems, and coastal protection measures aimed at easing congestion and minimizing flooding during heavy rainfall.
The company is also maintaining momentum on harbor and coastal development projects throughout the atolls. Among the latest initiatives is the harbor development project in R. Dhuvaafaru, which is expected to improve maritime accessibility and support economic activity within the island community. MTCC remains heavily involved in dredging, reclamation, shore protection, and port development works nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network continues expanding under MTCC operations, strengthening inter-island connectivity and providing more reliable public transportation services across multiple regions of the country. The RTL system has become a key component of the government’s long-term transport strategy to better connect communities throughout the Maldives.
In addition to transport and construction, MTCC has recently signed several agreements related to public infrastructure and institutional development projects, including administrative buildings and public service facilities. The company has also continued workforce development and employee training programs as part of efforts to improve operational efficiency and service standards.
Established as the Maldives’ first public company, MTCC has evolved into one of the country’s largest and most influential state-owned enterprises. With ongoing investments in sustainable transport, urban infrastructure, and nationwide development projects, the company continues to play a central role in shaping the Maldives’ future infrastructure landscape.
