The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has forecast unsettled weather conditions across the Maldives over the next 24 hours, warning of thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain in various parts of the country.
According to the latest weather advisory, showers and thunderstorms are expected nationwide, with some islands likely to experience intense rainfall accompanied by thunder.
Wind speeds in the southern atolls are expected to range between 5 and 15 miles per hour from the south and southwest. Elsewhere in the country, winds are forecast to blow from the southwest and west at speeds of 10 to 20 miles per hour. During squally weather, gusts could reach up to 35 miles per hour.
Sea conditions are expected to be moderate to rough in the central and northern regions, while southern waters are forecast to remain relatively calmer. However, seas may become rough during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms.
The Meteorological Service has urged the public, particularly seafarers and those travelling by sea, to remain cautious and closely monitor weather updates as adverse conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.
