Explosions were heard in several areas of southern Iran, including Qeshm Island, Jask, Sirik and Bandar Abbas, according to Iranian media reports.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported that two explosions were heard in the eastern part of Qeshm Island, while residents also reported hearing explosions in Jask. Additional reports emerged from Sirik and the port city of Bandar Abbas.
Iranian state television and the semi-official Tasnim news agency also reported the sounds of explosions in parts of the country’s south. However, the cause of the explosions has not been officially established.
An Iranian state television reporter suggested that the sounds could be connected to military activities aimed at defending the Strait of Hormuz.
There has been no independent confirmation that the reported explosions were caused by an attack. The extent of any possible damage or casualties also remains unclear.
The reports come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, following recent military exchanges in the region.
