Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed met with members of the Civil Service Commission on Tuesday, November 3, to discuss final preparations for the official launch of the Maldives’ National Respect Campaign, scheduled for November 14.

The meeting focused on coordination between the ministry and the Civil Service Commission as preparations continue for the nationwide initiative, introduced under the administration of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to promote mutual respect, courtesy and positive social values.

During the discussions, Civil Service Commission President Mohamed Mujthaz highlighted the importance of the initiative and explored ways in which the commission could contribute to its implementation.

The meeting also addressed the support and cooperation that the commission could provide to facilitate the campaign’s launch, reflecting efforts to involve public institutions in promoting respect and responsible conduct across Maldivian society.

The National Respect Campaign forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen social harmony and encourage the preservation of values traditionally associated with Maldivian culture.

Preparations for the initiative have included public participation in developing its visual identity. As previously reported by Maldives Ledger on October 17, the government opened public voting to select the campaign’s official logo from ten shortlisted designs submitted through a nationwide selection process.

The voting process was conducted through the PSM Air application, allowing members of the public to choose a design representing the campaign’s emphasis on dignity, harmony and mutual respect. Voting was scheduled to conclude on October 29.

President Muizzu previously outlined the objectives of the initiative, emphasising the importance of restoring respect and good character in everyday interactions and encouraging greater consideration for others within families, educational institutions, workplaces and communities.

The government has planned the initiative as a five-year nationwide programme under the slogan “Ikhthiraam ge Ufaa – Mujthamau ge Nafaa”, meaning “Value of Respect – Benefit to Society.”

The programme is intended to reach communities across all inhabited islands, with government institutions and other participating organisations expected to contribute to its implementation.

A nine-member committee comprising representatives from relevant government institutions and Public Service Media is also planned to provide strategic guidance and oversight throughout the initiative.

The campaign is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on November 14, marking the beginning of the government’s coordinated efforts to promote mutual respect, strengthen community relationships and encourage positive social behaviour throughout the Maldives.

The latest meeting between Minister Heena Waleed and the Civil Service Commission represents another step in the preparations ahead of the national launch.
