Public Voting Opens for the National Respect Campaign Logo in the Maldives

In an era defined by rapid modernization, shifting social dynamics, and the pervasive influence of digital connectivity, societies worldwide face the challenge of preserving core moral values. For the Maldives, a nation historically rooted in rich cultural traditions, community solidarity, and profound mutual respect, safeguarding these foundational virtues has become an urgent priority. Addressing this vital cultural need, the Maldivian government, under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has launched a significant nationwide initiative: the National Respect Campaign (Ikhthiraam Adhaakurumuge Qaumee Campaign). Marking a crucial step forward in this journey, public voting has officially opened to select the official logo that will represent the campaign.

The Foundation and Vision Behind the National Respect Campaign

The origin of the National Respect Campaign lies in a collective recognition that the traditional Maldivian ethos of mutual respect—honoring elders, fostering community harmony, demonstrating kindness, and practicing civil discourse—is gradually eroding in contemporary daily life. Modern pressures, generation gaps, and changing social behaviors have contributed to a decline in these essential interpersonal values.

Recognizing that policy alone cannot mend the social fabric, President Dr. Muizzu envisioned a comprehensive, grassroots-driven national movement. The campaign aims to spark a cultural renewal, encouraging citizens of all ages to consciously reintegrate respect, courtesy, and empathy into their families, schools, workplaces, and public spaces in alignment with enduring moral and societal principles. By positioning respect as a matter of national importance, the initiative seeks to foster a more compassionate, united, and disciplined society.

Engaging the Public: The Logo Selection Process

Symbols hold immense power in cultural campaigns, serving as visual anchors that unite communities under a shared banner and purpose. To ensure the campaign resonates deeply with the populace, the Ministry of Arts, Culture,, and Heritage previously invited creative minds across the Maldives to submit logo designs embodying the spirit of respect.

From a robust pool of submissions, the selection committee has narrowed the entries down to ten shortlisted designs. To embody the truly national and inclusive character of the campaign, the decision-making process has been handed over to the citizens themselves.

Public voting is now officially underway, facilitated through the PSM Air App. This digital platform allows Maldivians from across the atolls to review the shortlisted designs and cast their votes for the logo that best captures the essence of dignity, harmony, and mutual respect. The voting window will remain open until midnight (00:00) on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after which the winning emblem will be crowned as the official face of the campaign.

A Collective Responsibility

The launch of the logo voting phase represents more than a mere administrative step; it is an invitation to national participation. The success of a campaign centered on social values cannot rely solely on governmental frameworks—it demands active engagement from every segment of society. From media outlets and educational institutions to community leaders and individual citizens, a collective commitment is required to breathe life into the initiative’s ideals.

As Maldivians cast their votes on the PSM Air App over the coming days, they are not simply choosing a graphic icon. They are actively participating in a shared reaffirmation of cultural identity and moral purpose. The National Respect Campaign stands as a timely reminder that while nations evolve and progress economically and technologically, their true strength ultimately lies in the character, kindness, and mutual regard of their people.
