MNDF Coast Guard conducts 53 medical evacuations in a week

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard conducted 53 medical evacuations between October 8 and 15, transporting patients for urgent medical care.

According to the Coast Guard’s weekly medical evacuation report, the CG 1st Squadron carried out 34 evacuations, followed by the CG 4th Squadron with 11 and the CG 3rd Squadron with six. The CG 2nd Squadron conducted two evacuations, while Sea Ambulance E954 recorded none during the reporting period.

Medical evacuations are a critical service in the Maldives, where communities are spread across numerous islands separated by vast stretches of sea. For patients requiring urgent treatment unavailable on their home islands, transportation by sea can be essential to reaching hospitals and other medical facilities.

The Coast Guard plays an important role in connecting island communities to emergency medical care, particularly when patients need to be transferred between islands or to larger healthcare facilities. Its ability to respond across the country’s waters is a key part of supporting access to healthcare in the geographically dispersed island nation.
