The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard conducted 89 medical evacuations between October 22 and 29, transporting patients in need of urgent medical attention.
According to the Coast Guard’s weekly medical evacuation report, the CG 1st Squadron carried out the highest number of evacuations with 49, followed by the CG 4th Squadron with 17 and the CG 3rd Squadron with 16. The CG 2nd Squadron conducted seven evacuations, while Sea Ambulance E954 recorded none during the reporting period.
Medical evacuations are an essential service in the Maldives, where communities are scattered across hundreds of islands separated by large stretches of ocean. For residents of remote islands, accessing advanced medical facilities often requires transportation to another island, particularly in cases requiring urgent treatment or specialist care.
The Coast Guard plays a vital role in bridging this geographical gap, providing sea transportation for patients who need to reach hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Its operations are particularly important in an island nation where access to timely emergency medical care can depend heavily on reliable maritime transportation.
