The Maldives has invited Pakistani businesses to explore investment opportunities in Rasmalé, the government’s major urban development project, during a Maldives–Pakistan Business Forum held in Islamabad today
The forum was held as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to Pakistan and was attended by more than 300 participants, including representatives of major Pakistani companies and businesses. President Muizzu and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended the event.
During the forum, the Maldivian government presented investment opportunities in Rasmalé and other sectors, highlighting the potential for Pakistani businesses to participate in the country’s development.
Aishath Samaha, an official from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, described Rasmalé as a major urban development initiative intended to address the Maldives’ housing challenges while creating a new urban centre.
Samaha said the project, developed under President Muizzu’s long-term vision and policies, would create opportunities for businesses and investors while contributing to housing, commercial activity and modern urban development.
She also invited investors to become part of the new city, emphasising that the project aims to create opportunities for Maldivians across different sectors alongside its development.
The government highlighted Pakistan’s potential role in supporting the Maldives’ development objectives under President Muizzu’s Vision 2040, noting the value of Pakistan’s experience and participation.
Beyond Rasmalé, the forum also showcased investment opportunities across the Maldives. Digital information outlining potential projects and the benefits available to investors was shared with participants, with several businesses expressing interest and exchanging information.
The government estimates that total investment associated with Rasmalé and related developments could reach US$30 billion.
The project is expected to generate approximately 14,000 permanent jobs, while around 54,000 employment opportunities could be created during its development phase, according to the government.
