The two countries also exchanged an agreement on youth and sports development.

Speaking during a joint press statement in Islamabad on Wednesday, President Muizzu said Pakistan had long provided scholarships, training opportunities and placements for Maldivian students, athletes, coaches and young professionals.

Muizzu said the two countries had agreed to broaden these opportunities, strengthen youth exchange programmes and expand cooperation in skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership.

He also highlighted the importance of preparing young people for emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, digitalisation and future technologies.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif similarly highlighted Pakistan’s support for Maldivian students, noting that many Maldivian men and women had pursued their education at Pakistani universities and colleges.

The agreements were among 20 memorandums of understanding exchanged during the visit, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan.

The two governments have expressed their intention to translate the agreements into practical opportunities through closer cooperation in education, training and capacity building.
