Three people have been arrested in two separate drug-related operations in Lhaviyani Atoll, conducted in Naifaru and Olhuvelifushi on October 12 and 13, respectively.
The first operation was carried out in Naifaru on October 12 by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit in cooperation with Naifaru Police, as part of an investigation into alleged drug use, possession and trafficking.
During a court-authorised search of a house on the island, officers discovered 13 rubber packets containing substances suspected to be drugs. Two men were arrested in connection with the case: Hassan Husham, 35, of Sosun Villa, Naifaru, and Adam Naseer, 32, of Kaduvaluge, Naifaru.
A separate operation was conducted by Olhuvelifushi Police on October 13 in connection with suspected drug possession, use and trafficking on the island.
During the operation, officers stopped and searched Mohamed Afrah, 28, of Shehenazge, Olhuvelifushi, on a street on the island. Police discovered seven pieces of paper containing a substance suspected to be drugs.
The three suspects were subsequently brought before the court for decisions on their detention. Hassan Husham and Adam Naseer were remanded in custody for seven days each, while Mohamed Afrah was ordered to be held for eight days.
Police are continuing their investigations into both cases.
