A foreign national who jumped into the sea from the Sinamalé Bridge has been rescued by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard.
The MNDF said the incident was reported to its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at 12:44 a.m. today, following which divers from the Coast Guard’s Second Squadron under the MNDF Malé Area Command were dispatched to the area.
During the search operation, the divers spotted the man holding onto one of the bridge’s pillars.
He was subsequently brought aboard an MNDF Coast Guard harbour craft and handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
Police have not yet disclosed further details regarding the incident.
