Police have launched an investigation into a case in which a man is accused of threatening his former wife by claiming he would “sell” her to another person.
According to the Maldives Police Service, a complaint regarding the alleged threats was filed at the Hulhumalé Phase II Police Station earlier on Thursday.
Police said the complainant reported that her ex-husband had issued warnings and threats, claiming that he would sell her to another individual. The allegation forms the basis of the ongoing investigation.
However, authorities clarified that the case does not involve any allegations of sexual assault. Police also stressed that there is currently no indication that the woman was actually sold to anyone or that the matter is linked to human trafficking.
The case remains under investigation as police continue to gather further information and determine the circumstances surrounding the reported threats.
