Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has begun a major MVR 150 million development project aimed at expanding its facilities and strengthening healthcare services in the southern region.
AEH Chief Executive Officer Dr Ahmed Adeel Naseer said the project will be implemented in phases, focusing on both infrastructure improvements and service enhancement to better meet the needs of patients.
A key component of the project is the construction of a new three-storey building that will house 10 private patient rooms. The development is estimated to cost MVR 50 million and is being financed with support from the Bank of Maldives. According to Dr Adeel, the project is expected to move forward soon, with the required land set to be handed over to the contractor in the coming days.
The hospital has also approved a separate MVR 20 million initiative to upgrade its existing executive rooms to international standards.
As part of efforts to expand specialised healthcare services, AEH is working to introduce a hyperbaric chamber for the treatment of diving-related injuries and emergencies. The hospital is also recruiting additional staff to strengthen therapeutic and treatment services.
Dr Adeel said the expansion forms part of broader efforts to improve access to healthcare in the southern atolls and reduce the need for patients to travel to Malé for specialised medical treatment.
