Police have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of playing a leading role in a network allegedly involved in producing and trafficking drugs in Thinadhoo City.
The suspect, identified as Mohamed Afaaz bin Abdulla, of Rihikoka, Thinadhoo, was arrested on October 18 under a court warrant.
The operation was conducted jointly by Thinadhoo Police and the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit. During a search of an apartment in Thinadhoo believed to be linked to the suspect, officers discovered equipment allegedly used to produce drugs, along with three 20-litre containers and a 500ml bottle containing substances suspected to be drugs.
Afaaz was subsequently presented before the court, which ordered him to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
Police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
