Among the standout figures in modern Maldivian cricket is national team batsman Mohamed Rishwan. Born on November 25, 1993, Rishwan has spent over a decade representing the Maldives on the international stage, embodying the perseverance required to compete and thrive at the highest level of national sports.
From Schoolyards to the National Squad
Rishwan’s cricket story began at the age of 13 on the grounds of Thaajuddin School. What started as schoolyard practice quickly evolved into a focused athletic pursuit. His natural aptitude as a batsman, paired with a relentless drive to refine his technique, saw him rise rapidly through local development ranks.
By 2012, Rishwan earned his call-up to the Maldivian Senior National Team. Stepping onto the international circuit marked the realization of a lifelong ambition, but it was also the beginning of an enduring career. Over the past decade and a half, he has remained an active and vital cornerstone of the national side, witnessing and contributing to the dynamic evolution of the sport in the Maldives. Reflecting on the national team’s trajectory over the years, Rishwan notes that the squad has improved tremendously, maturing both technically and strategically on the international stage.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, especially Ahmed Zila (kudadhombe) and Imdhah (kudabe) and Hussain Furugan (Husseinbe), for always standing by me and supporting me throughout my cricket journey.
Their love, encouragement, understanding, and belief in me have played a significant role in helping me pursue my passion. Through both the good times and the difficult moments, they have motivated me to keep pushing forward, work harder, and never give up on my dreams. Their support has meant more to me than words can express.”
