Maldivian Arrested in Sri Lanka Over Alleged Illegal Broadcasting Operation

A Maldivian national has reportedly been arrested in Sri Lanka in connection with the operation of an unauthorized television and radio broadcasting station.

According to Sri Lankan media reports, the arrested individual is a 55-year-old Maldivian man residing in the Kalubowila area. Authorities are said to have launched the operation following intelligence information indicating suspicious broadcasting activities being carried out from a location in the Attidiya area.

The raid was conducted jointly by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau and Sri Lanka’s Telecommunications Regulatory authorities. Reports stated that the broadcasting station had allegedly been operating secretly under the name of a travel company.

During the raid, officials seized equipment valued at around 50 million Sri Lankan rupees. The confiscated items reportedly included satellite receivers, satellite dishes, computers, Starlink units, and several transmission devices believed to have been used for broadcasting purposes.

Sri Lankan authorities have not yet released further details regarding charges or the nature of the broadcasts allegedly transmitted through the station.
