Russia Lifts Roblox Ban Following Thousands of Appeals From Children

Russia has lifted its ban on the popular gaming platform Roblox after months of restrictions that sparked widespread complaints from young users across the country.

The Russian Ministry of Digital Development announced Wednesday that access to Roblox would be restored, saying the company had complied with legal requirements and introduced additional measures aimed at protecting children online. Authorities said Roblox also pledged to continue efforts to combat harmful and undesirable content on the platform.

The move comes after a wave of appeals from children following the ban. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously said authorities received numerous complaints from young users who were upset by the restrictions. Pro-Kremlin activist Yekaterina Mizulina later claimed she had received around 63,000 letters from children aged eight to 16 regarding the ban, with many expressing disappointment and frustration over losing access to the game.

Russia blocked Roblox last year after communications regulator Roskomnadzor accused the platform of distributing extremist materials and promoting what authorities described as “LGBT propaganda.” The regulator also cited child-safety concerns, alleging that some children on the platform had been exposed to sexual harassment, manipulated into sharing intimate images, or pressured into inappropriate and violent behavior.

Following the ban, Roblox worked to strengthen its safety systems and moderation tools. Russian authorities said the company implemented additional child-protection measures and agreed to continue improving safeguards for young users.

Roblox says it moderates content using both human reviewers and artificial intelligence technology to identify and remove exploitative, harmful, or inappropriate material. The company has also introduced a range of safety features designed specifically to protect younger players.

With the restrictions now lifted, Roblox is once again available to users in Russia. The platform remains one of the world’s most popular gaming services, attracting around 100 million daily users globally and maintaining a particularly strong following among children and teenagers.
