Maldivian IT Expert Lands Major Role in 2026 FIFA World Cup

A Maldivian technology professional has secured a senior role in the delivery of venue technology systems for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including responsibilities at the stadium set to host the tournament’s final.

Mohamed Shaheen, an IT expert based in New York, has been appointed as Lead Venue Technology Manager for several World Cup venues. With more than two decades of experience in information technology, cybersecurity, and infrastructure management, he will oversee critical technology operations across designated stadiums.

Shaheen is the founder of Wit Solutions, a company that provides services in cloud computing, cybersecurity, enterprise networking, and IT operations. The company was selected to participate in the World Cup technology programme, marking a significant achievement for both the business and the Maldives.

Speaking about the appointment, Shaheen said he initially dismissed the first email from tournament organisers, believing it to be unsolicited spam.

However, after verifying the authenticity of the message, he realised the opportunity would place his company at the centre of one of the world’s largest sporting events.

In his role, Shaheen will be responsible for coordinating venue technology design, integrating multiple systems, conducting operational readiness assessments, and ensuring stadium technology is fully prepared ahead of matches. He will also manage the planning and implementation of technology solutions across the venues under his supervision.

His appointment has been welcomed as a notable achievement for the Maldives, highlighting the growing presence of Maldivian professionals in advanced fields such as information technology, cybersecurity, engineering, and digital infrastructure on the international stage.
