Finnish Rescue Team Recovers Two Italian Divers in Maldives, Operations Continue for Remaining Victims
Maldives – The Finnish search and rescue team assisting in the recovery of four missing Italian divers in the Maldives has expressed its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and provided an update on the ongoing operation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the team said it is doing its part to bring the victims home. Two of the four Italians have already been recovered from a cave, with operations continuing in the coming days to locate and retrieve the remaining two.
The statement, issued by Sami Paakkarinen on behalf of the Finnish team, reads:
“The Finnish team operating in the Maldives for the recovery of the four Italians wishes to express its deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We are doing our part to bring them home. A special thanks goes to the Italian Embassy, to Dan Europe, and to the Maldivian authorities for the support provided to the team. This operation requires the work of dozens of people. Today two of the victims were recovered from the cave and in the coming days we will continue the work to bring back the others. We ask for privacy and operational serenity during the operations. Thanks to everyone for the support.”
The update was shared via Italian news agency ANSA through the Maldives President’s Media Division.
The incident involves four Italian divers who went missing during a diving expedition in the Maldives. The Finnish team, known for its expertise in complex underwater recovery operations, was brought in to support local and international efforts.
